Forest Machine Operations

L.I.T.A. offers Nationally Accredited Training and Assessment of forest harvesting machines including single grip harvesters, forwarders, skidders and feller buncher.

The training and assessing is aligned to National Competencies from within the Forest and Forest Products Training Package.

Our staff can arrange to attend the worksite and instruct the operators in a range of tasks, prior to assessing them on the job.

Forest Machine Operator Training Courses

We also conduct 5 week forest operator training programs where the aim is to give participants the opportunity to gain skills and knowledge to operate forest machinery and work in the forest industry at an entry level. As part of this program participants spend the first week undertaking classroom based activities such as Occupational Health & Safety and Environmental Care, Fire Safety, Machine operation techniques, and Hydraulic safety.

Several of the classroom training sessions come from within the Cert III Harvest & Haulage Sector of the Forest & Forest Products Training Package.

To introduce participants to the basics of forest machinery they spend time at L.I.T.A. on the Timberjack Harvester Simulator which provides them skills and knowledge of crane techniques that are used on some machines within the industry.

The participants then spend the remainder of the training program on an active logging site where they learn about and operate both a harvester and forwarder.  During this time they gain hands on knowledge and experience about the day to day working of a logging operation including coupe plans, basic maintenance, waste disposal, machine safety and how to harvest and forward trees in preparation for cartage to a local timber mill by one of the contractors.
